Great news! Harold Ford has decided not to challenge U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in New York. The New York Times is reporting that Ford finally gave in to pressure from Democratic leaders, who did not want him causing trouble for Gillibrand.
An awful roll out effort and poor poll numbers may have also contributed to Ford’s decision.
Ford ran into trouble over the weekend when he tried to convince gay New Yorkers that he has always been pro-gay. Hardly. In fact, Ford’s record is quite anti-gay. It is Gillibrand who has been fighting for our causes on the national stage; she has been a leader in the effort to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
I’m relieved that Ford finally came to his senses and won’t continue his fool’s errand of seeking office in New York. Now let’s hope he’ll just go away.
